The cycling infrastructure shortfall is hitting women hardest
The biggest barrier to getting on two wheels for everyday journeys is fear of traffic. This is an issue that disproportionately affects women. Transport academic Dr Rachel Aldred’s Near Miss project shows women tend to experience more near misses than men, while according to a recent YouGov poll, commissioned by British Cycling, support among women for protected infrastructure is greater than among men: 74% vs 68.2%, despite the fact fewer women cycle.
